Previewing and Predicting
Previewing is defined as a speed reading activity to get information and an overview of the book being read. Previewing is used to practice placing a reading according to its context. We can find out information about the title of the book to find out who the author of the book is quickly before entering the stage of reading the book as a whole.While predicting is an activity to predict what will be discussed in the book. Like the case we look at the title of the book and also the cover to predict what the contents of the book are before we read it.
How to practice previewing and predicting?
To be able to practice it, here are the steps that we can follow:
1. Start by reading the title
2. Then look at the picture or cover
3. Read the main sentence in each paragraph
4. Then read the last sentence in each paragraph.
Purpose of Previewing and Predicting
- To get some ideas to decide what book to read
- To get information faster
- To follow the author's idea well
