Skimming
Hello, guys. Welcome back!!
So, on this occasion I'll share about Skimming
Skimming
Skimming is a speed reading technique to get information and an overview of the book to be read, and will determine our interest in reading the book or not. Just like the scanning material that we discussed on the previous blog, skimming and scanning have the same advantages, namely:
- Can be used to save time
- Easier to understand context
- Can increase productivity.
Types of Skimming
Preview Skimming is used in surveying a chapter before reading or studying, finding appropriate material for use in research. Overview Skimming used to sample reading material more thoroughly than you do in a preview. Review Skimming is to re-familiarise yourself with the material you have previously read or skimmed.
Steps to use skimming
The steps if you want to use skimming reading techniques:
- First, read the first paragraph so you can know the main idea.
- Second, read the first one or two words in the next sentence.
- Third, repeat until the last paragraph. Even though this technique doesn't allow you to understand in detail, at least you understand the main idea being discussed.
For example, if there is a news "chili prices go up again!". You can use this technique to find out the main topic, then you can also use a scanning technique to find out information about the price of the chili. So it can be concluded that scanning and skimming can be used simultaneously to analyze a text.
Thank you guys, for your visiting. That's all I can share to you. I hope my explanation is easy to understand. See you in my next post!!
